Radiopopper, who happen to have one of the coolest sounding company names in the photo world, is a new outfit that is creating radio frequency transmitters for use with SLR flash units. They have a new website which just launched and where you can get updated information on the products they plan to release very soon. » MORE
I’ve decided to take it easy today. I’m weathering the blog storm around yesterday’s Macworld 2008 conference. As is typically the case, it’s impossible to get anything heard overtop of the cries about the latest Apple iPod, iPhone, or iLaptop (yes, I know there’s no such thing… yet).
Instead, I’ll just tell you about this little ATP GPS gadget that I stumbled across the other day.

If you like geotagging, but you don’t like the idea of paying a lot for a handheld GPS, or your camera doesn’t have a direct GPS connection, you can opt for this $150 device called the GPS Photo Finder. » MORE
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m hella excited about the first 50 megapixel monster digital SLR (regardless of who makes it). And why not? More megapixels is better, right?
If you believe the German site 6mpixel.org – maybe not. More megapixels is certainly a higher physical resolution, but do the pictures produced at that resolution look better? » MORE
Wireless transfer on cameras has, thus far, been rather hit or miss. It’s fun to shoot and transfer pictures as you’re taking them, or to remotely control your DSLR via a 802.11 connection without cables, but the transfer rate (even on 802.11 DraftN connections) isn’t the greatest.
That’s where Sony wants to comes in. » MORE
Need more space on your memory card? If CF is your thing… Pretec has introduced their lineup of Compact Flash cards at CES 2008 – which includes a 16GB, a 24GB, and a 48GB card! Lots of space, and the write speeds go up to a blazing 50MB/sec.
If you’re an SD card user, we noticed that Panasonic has introduced a 32GB class 6 SDHC card capable of write speeds of 6MB/sec.
Finally, Sony Memory Sticks have upped the ante to 16GB and Lexar has 8GB SDHC cards now with 20MB/sec write speeds (!).
Speaking of Lexar – it seems they’ll be licensing the SD WiFi technology from Eye-Fi. Doesn’t appear they’ll be changing anything on the cards (from what Engadget.com says) but this will help the Eye-Fi folks get some wider exposure.
Casio has some great point and shoot cameras on the market. They’re not one of the bigger names you think of when you think pro cameras, but at CES 2008 they’ve unveiled something which no other camera manufacturer has… a digital camera which shoots up to 1,200 frames per second. Beat THAT! » MORE
One of the best ways to determine if your image is exposed the way you want it is to check the histogram. However, when you start talking histograms, a lot of people get that glazed over look in their eyes. It’s a fancy word for something that’s really quite simple. Knowing what the graph means, and how to read it, are important things to understand however.
You may have seen these in programs you use, or on the back of your camera. They are histograms, a visual representation of data in your image. A histogram is a bar graph that shows you the distribution of luminance values in a digital photograph. » MORE
We here at Fotohacker hope that all of you had a fantastic (insert holiday name here) this year! If Christmas gift giving is your thing, and if you got any gifts that were wrapped with colored cellophane (fancy!) this Christmas, keep the cellophane handy for your strobes. That could be useful as a colored gel for some interesting lighting effects. Just don’t tell anyone that’s what you’re doing… or they’ll think you’ve gone nuts.
You can use an elastic band and wrap it around the head of the flash and bam… you’ve got some new colored lighting. Some of those ribbons could also be interesting gobos for creating patterns, and the shiny wrap can create some awesome effects on the wall if you bounce the light off it like a reflector.
