Engadget reported earlier this week that Canon had an “eye-based biometric photo watermarking system” patent pending. That is, the camera will have a sensor which will read the user’s iris and will record a registration code embedded in the image at the moment of power-off.
This code will essentially “authenticate” the image as one that has not been tampered with, which is especially useful for legal purposes.
While other camera companies have methods which achieve the same thing, this method is surely the most advanced and the least time consuming, though when it may actually be implemented in a camera is anyone’s guess. Still, it’s worth mentioning.
