Well, Gary Fong’s Lightsphere is made in America. And Lambency Flash Diffuser is as far as I know made in China. The labor cost is very low in China compare to America. So, no matter how hard Gary Fong tries to lower the cost, he can’t. Because he pays big bucks to his employees. On the other hand, its very cheap to make the product in China.

I guess when someone takes the time to get a patent and do all the research and testing as Gary Fong has done, the product demand a premium price.

As Gary Fong has patents on all his products , the copies are illegal.
These products should be confiscated and destroyed protect the patent holders legal rights.
Allso, these fake Gary Fong products don’t do justice to the quality of the light,in short you get what you pay for.

Personally I think it all comes down to quality. While I don’t have the product that you are speaking of and can’t test it against others, I do have the Lightsphere, a Sto-Fen and a homemade flash diffuser. Gary’s product is superior to the Sto-Fen and my product actually provides better diffusion when compared to the Sto-Fen. However, I have to say that when you spend the time, use great materials, and go ahead and patent that idea, if the product is good you should be compensated for it. Gary Fong’s Lightsphere is a top notch product.

Despite the reviews in the comments, I’ve been using this thing for a couple of years now without any problems. It may be a knock off, but it’s essentially identical to the Fong version – so there isn’t much that could go wrong.

If you’ve got the extra money and don’t mind spending it, buy the Gary Fong Lightsphere. If you feel like Mr. Fong is overcharging for his wonderful creation, or if you’re just a poor struggling photographer, “settle” for the Lambency.

I looked up Lambency and got this site, but I’ve got to say, as much as I want to believe in the knockoff version, the reviews here have such bad non-native English that they seem like fake, planted reviews by whomever makes the Lambency one. You might get one or two foreigners reviewing an item, but 2 non-native English speakers praising this item? These comments seem bogus. Keep this in mind while weighing these reviews on your decision.

Both LightSPhere of Gary Fong and Lambency are made from China. Mr. Gary Fong is not support America. why American customers buy his product?
why to pay LS double price for Mr. Fong,
just pay cheaper (half Price) from Lambency

All of them work the same, great and made from china.
If Mr. Fong product made from USA, we will buy his products no matter what.

Even better, I think, is a home-made (as in DIY) flash diffuser I read about on Instructables.com (www.Instructables.com/id/DIY-Gary-Fong-Lightsphere/) a while back. It’s made with silicone shelf liner from Ikea and Velcro tape. A roll of the shelf liner is around $5 USD and the total cost of the diffuser works out to about 30 cents. It took me about 5 minutes to make one. And it really works well! Plus it’s light and collapsible, so it doesn’t take up any room at all in a camera bag. If you use the white Velcro tape it has a nicer appearance (they show it with black.)

Wanted to save more money. Home made diffuser is even cheaper than a replica of someone else idea. Go to your neighbour’s recycle box and pick up any gray fong lightsphere look alike plastic will cost nothing, dud!!!

I bought the Gary Fong Cloud kit, but the but it did not completely suit my needs. And… to get the individual component I wanted, I would have to purchase another complete kit, the Lightsphere. I was somewhat disgruntled with this selling approach. When I spotted the Lambency kit, it was priced in such a way covering all my needs+++. The service was fast, the kit was better quality and fit. Lambency (Jue Ying) has improved what Gary started in many ways. This world thrives on plagiarism, and has progressed because of it, sometime good, sometimes bad. “Nanos gigantum humeris insidentes” (Dwarfs standing on the shoulders of giants)

Many giants – Newton & Einsten to name a few – throughout history have used this phrase in one form or another to credit those who have come before them. Ironically, merely quoting this phrase is plagiarism…
