“It’s totally about the pears here.”
I’ve always had a sort of fascination with photographs of food. I like to cook. Though I don’t think I’m a great cook, I have the makings of a good cook who doesn’t take it seriously enough to become great, but dabbles enough to get really lucky every once in a while with a dish.
Part of this interest in food comes from cookbooks and food magazines, and I typically only get really excited about the ones that have great pictures of food. There was always a mystery to how photographers got food to look the way it did (because it so rarely looks that way when I make it, or have it served to me).
Here’s a great video of fine food and beverage photographer Ed Gowans walking us through his process and discussing it a little bit. I really admire Ed’s work and his treatment of all his subject matter. If you’re interested in Ed and his food photography, you can see more if you head over to cookingupastory.com.
